Shayna Hubers found guilty of murder after she shot dead boyfriend after hearing his plan to date Miss USA runner-up
Shayna Hubers, 24, pleaded self-defence after she shot her on-off boyfriend Ryan Poston six times at his penthouse apartment in Highland Heights, Ohio, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Hubers, who was 21 at the time of the killing, claimed Poston, 29, had tried to attack her.
But the jury rejected her story, siding with the prosecution who called the university graduate a “manipulator” who was willing to say anything to get away with murder.
The jury heard that on the night of the shooting Poston was planning to meet with Audrey Bolte, a former Miss Ohio and Miss USA runner-up, at a bar where they planned to play pool and drink.
Poston’s stepfather, Peter Carter, told the court that Poston had confided in him that he planned to end things with Hubers and that he had advised him to be honest but gentle.
Text messages exchanged between the pair over the course of their one-year relationship suggested Hubers was more attached to Poston than the other way round.
Earlier in the trial jurors were shown a videotape of a police interview with Hubers after her arrest in which she said that Poston was “vain” and that she had given the “nose job he wanted” by shooting him in the face.
According to The Enquirer she displayed no emotion as the verdict was read.
In a statement after the verdict Poston’s family said: “The senselessness of this action is a tragedy for all families — both Ryan’s and his assailant’s.”
